"The soul is regenerated in the sacred waters of baptism and thus becomes God's child."
— St. Maximilian Kolbe

Baptism is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation (the other two being Holy Communion and Confirmation). Once baptised, a person becomes a member of the church.

"For the grace of Baptism to unfold, the parents' help is important. So too is the role of the godfather and godmother, who must be firm believers, able and ready to help the newly baptised - child or adult on the road of Christian life. The whole ecclesial community bears some responsibility for the development and safeguarding of the grace given at Baptism." (Cathecism of the Catholic Church)

For Catholics, this Sacrament is not a mere formality – it is the very mark of a Christian since it brings us into new life with Christ.
